1996

The Founding of Minopex

Founded by DRA, Minopex launched its plant operations and maintenance services at the Forzando coal washing plant.

1997 / 1998

Entering Commodity Markets

Minopex diversified into chrome and iron ore contracts, broadening its footprint.

1998

First Platinum Project : Kroondal 1

First platinum contract secured at Kroondal 1, still a strong production performer today.

2003

Expanding Operations : Kroondal 2

Kroondal 2 added five years later, establishing the Kroondal Complex.

2005

Crossborder Project : Letseng

Expanded internationally with first diamond operation at Letseng Diamond Mine, Lesotho.

2008

QLS (Subsidiary)

Acquired Quality Laboratory Services, expanding analytical and assaying capabilities.

2010

Driving Coal Growth : Phola

Began operating 16 Mtpa Phola Coal Plant, notable for scale and joint-venture operations.

2011

EnSerMo (Subsidiary)

Established engineering services in Mozambique’s Tete Province.

2012

Scaling Platinum Operations : Booysendal

Secured platinum operations and maintenance services at Booysendal.

2012

Entering into Botswana : Karowe

Karowe Diamond Operations commenced; Minopex Botswana established.

2013

EnSerSa (Subsidiary)

Standalone engineering services capability launched in South Africa.

2015

Middle East Launch : Saudi Arabia

Expanded Middle East footprint with Ad Duwayhi Gold operations.

2016

Major Operation : Moatize

The Moatize CHPP II is the largest operation to date, employing 500+ people at peak.

2018

Introduction to Zinc : Gamsberg

Minopex Earned Chairman’s Award across clients global operations for excellence.

2020

Niche Contract Mining (Subsidiary)

Minopex continued executing its growth strategy through acquiring a majority share in a mining contracting business, expanding into niche underground mining services.
